Welsh 3 Peaks Charity Challenge!

Five volunteers from the Poole branch of the Church of Scientology set out on August bank holiday weekend on a challenging round trip to Wales and back. The challenge: The Welsh “3 Peaks”.

That is, Pen-Y-Fan in the Brecon Beacons in the south,

At the Peak of Pen-Y-Fan

The team makes it to the top of the first peak, Pen-y-Fan in the Brecon Beacons, South Wales

Cadair Idris mid Wales,

At the cold & windy peak of Cadair Idris

Here we are at the top of Cadair Idris where there was very limited visibility!

and Snowdon in the north.

At the peak of Snowdon

The team arrives at the top of the highest peak in Wales, Snowdon

The purpose: to raise money for local charity Lewis-Manning Hospice.

Added into it was the fact that the Snowdon leg was not just Snowdon itself but the other three peaks that make up the “Snowdon Horseshoe”, making it a somewhat arduous 8 hour walk/climb just for that one part.

The challenge went very well with no injury beyond the usual sore knees and achy legs. Walking up and down stairs was noticeable for a while!

A dip in the lake!

A quick dip in the lake!

The scenery was spectacular, weather was generally good though at the top of Cadair Idris it was freezing and blowing a gale. But on Snowdon it was so sunny and hot that a refreshing swim at the end of this final peak in the beautiful lake at its base was very welcome!

The end result was raising approximately £1200 for Lewis-Manning Hospice.

Thank you to everyone who sponsored us. :-)

This challenge is the latest of several done over the last years to raise money for local charities, the total being in the region of £20,000.
